Recommencement en fanfare. Le Tecra est de retour sous un nouveau nom. Le Dynabook Tecra X50 reprend l’esprit tout de finesse du Tecra, mais tombe finalement à plat. Si le X50 est une machine tout à fait capable, son prix est bien trop élevé pour ce qu’il propose.

Le Dynabook Tecra X50 continue la série de jeu de Toshiba. L’appareil est séduisant : c’est l’un des portables pros de 15,6 pouces les plus fins et légers du marché. C’est avant tout un portable conçu pour la mobilité, mais qui possède des défauts.

Le Tecra X50 possède un clavier fiable et réactif, et d’excellents haut-parleurs. Il a une allure premium, et s’avère évolutif malgré sa finesse. Hormis ces éléments, le Tecra X50 ne fait pas grand-chose pour se démarquer.

La machine utilise le même processeur Core i7-8665U Whiskey Lake que beaucoup d’autres portables pros, mais ses performances sont notablement moins bonnes. Et sa batterie lâche bien trop tôt, vu la cible de l’appareil - ceux qui ont besoin d’une machine très mobile seront déçus.

Les performances globales sont tout à fait suffisantes pour du travail de bureautique, mais il existe d’autres appareils meilleurs et moins chers. En particulier, les ThinkPad T490s et X1 Carbon (2019) de Lenovo sont moins chers, plus légers, et plus puissants. Et tiennent bien plus longtemps sur batterie.

Ainsi, le Dynabook Tecra X50 illustre le dicton que l’habit ne fait pas le moine. C’est une machine fine et légère, et élégante. Mais cela mis à part, il lui est difficile de justifier son prix.
