Afin d'abaisser la luminosité de l'écran, certains ordinateurs portables font varier très rapidement le rétroéclairage entre éteint et allumé. La Fire HD 8 (2018) d’Amazon est une tablette de 8 pouces qui est presque sans rivaux à son niveau prix-performances. Ceux qui cherchent une tablette abordable pour la navigation web doivent vraiment s’y attarder. Le son stéréo est très honnête, ainsi que son autonomie, sa qualité de construction, et son Wifi double bande. La version pour enfants possède une coque très rigide et robuste en bleu ou rose, ainsi que des contenus appropriés pour des enfants.

Les différences entre la Fire HD 8 (2018) et le modèle précédent, comme l’inclusion d’Alexa, ne sont pas nombreuses. Elles sont néanmoins les bienvenues, et rendent le nouveau modèle encore plus séduisant, vu le prix inchangé.

Quand elle est couplée à la station d’accueil optionnelle Show Mode, la tablette possède les mêmes fonctionnalités que l’Echo Show d’Amazon, pour un prix bien moins élevé. Au moment de nos tests, la deuxième génération de l’Echo Show se vendait à plus de 200 $, tandis que la version 32 Go de la Fire HD 8 (2018) et le dock Show Mode s’achètent à moins de 140 $.

Cela dit, vous rencontrerez tôt ou tard des limitations, à cause par exemple du SoC quadricœur plus ou moins léthargique MediaTek MT8163, ou de l’écran à faible résolution (1 280 x 800) et plutôt sombre. La tablette n’a pas non plus de GPS, l’appareil photo est au mieux utilisable pour des photos occasionnelles, et Fire OS basé sur Android est clairement destiné à l’écosystème Amazon. Le Play Store de Google peut être installé rétroactivement, mais cela annule la garantie.
