En effectuant les tests du Spectre x360, nous avions demandé à nos lecteurs allemands ce qui était le plus important pour un convertible premium. La portabilité, l’autonomie, l’absence de coil whine, les performances et la rigidité du châssis comptaient parmi les facteurs les plus importants. De façon générale, un convertible est censé être portable, avoir un châssis rigide et une autonomie assez bonne. Le châssis du x360 est très robuste vu son poids et son épaisseur. Il n’est pas complètement immunisé contre les torsions ou les déformations, mais l’est bien plus que l’ultrabook Spectre 13. Les charnières semblent également plus durables et plus fermes.

Le deuxième aspect, l’autonomie, est prise en charge par une batterie de 60 Wh (à comparer à la petite batterie de 43 Wh de l’ultrabook). Grâce à une faible consommation et à une politique active de throttling, le Spectre x360 fait même mieux que le Lenovo Yoga 920 et que sa batterie de 70 Wh. Le prix à payer sont des performances globales et CPU moindres – le Lenovo Yoga est bien plus rapide à tous les niveaux que le Spectre x360. Ceux pour qui l’autonomie est un facteur important, nous suggérons d’éviter la version avec écran 4K, celui-ci réduisant l’autonomie de façon significative.

Les performances globales du Core i7-8550U sont solides, sauf pour les sollicitations graphiquement exigeantes ou les jeux, la UHD Graphics 620 se révélant alors notablement plus lente que sur d'autres portables équipés de façon similaire. Les sollicitations classiques ne sont en revanche pas un souci. Le touchpad et l’écran tactile fonctionnent bien, mais nous n’avons malheureusement pas pu tester le stylet optionnel.

Le prix peut sembler exagéré au vu des performances du Spectre, mais la qualité de construction et le design le justifient.

The price obviously depends on your choice of hardware, and the device can be configured according to your individual liking in HP’s web store. The base model starts at $999 and includes an i5-8250U CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and a 360 GB SSD (currently a free upgrade from the usual 256 GB SSD); a fully specced model (4K display, i7-8550U, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD) will cost you almost $1,700.

If you find the Spectre x360 too expensive maybe the 13-inch Acer Spin 5 (i7-8550U, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) might be an option. Its performance is comparable to the Spectre x360 but it lacks a Thunderbolt 3.0 port. It is also 1 cm thicker and cannot really compete with the x360 in terms of design.
