Rien de nouveau ? Nouveaux processeurs, carte graphique plus puissante et grand nombre d’écrans, voici un résumé de ce nouveau ThinkPad X1 Extreme de 2e génération. Lenovo n’a que légèrement modifié cette 2e mouture, le châssis restant inchangé. Nous avons mis cet appareil au banc d’essai, dans sa version avec un écran mat 4K, qui a un impact conséquent sur l’autonomie…

Verdict

Au premier abord, le ThinkPad X1 Extreme 2e génération paraît ce qu’il cherche à paraître, un excellent portable multimédia. Combiner le châssis de son prédécesseur avec plus d’écrans et des composants plus puissants devrait être une voie vers le succès. Cependant, en pratique, les changements ne se sont pas toujours avérés réussis.

Commençons par les bonne choses, l’écran mat 4K qui possède une belle qualité d’image, mais après calibrage. Le X1 Extreme possède également l’un des meilleurs claviers du marché, bien que notre modèle souffre de problèmes de fiabilité. Le X1 Extreme est également plutôt silencieux en cas de sollicitations.

Mais à partir de maintenant, nous n’avons plus que des mauvaises nouvelles. Nous avons l’impression que Lenovo a tout simplement installé ses nouveaux composants en conservant le même système de refroidissement. Le nouveau processeur souffre, à cause de la carte graphique plus rapide, bien que celle-ci ne soit pas non plus à la hauteur de nos attentes. Le résultat en est que le X1 Extreme Gen. 2 possède un processeur moins puissant que son prédécesseur, et un GPU que légèrement plus rapide. Un autre problème est l’énorme consommation de notre appareil, qui tient moins de 5h avec sa dalle 4K.

La deuxième génération du Thinkpad X1 Extreme a régressé à bien des égards. Les performances du processeur sont en retrait par rapport au prédécesseur, et la carte graphique ne peut atteindre tout son potentiel. Et si l’écran 4K est un bon choix en ce qui concerne la qualité d’image, il nécessite un calibrage supplémentaire, et a un impact significatif sur l’autonomie.

Les performances de notre modèle ne sont pas non plus mauvaises – on n’aura pas de problèmes avec un usage classique au quotidien. Mais la concurrence fait tout simplement mieux. Nous recommandons de jeter un œil à la version avec écran 1080p à 500 cd/m2, qui possède une très bonne qualité d’image tout en consommant significativement moins.
