Guerre de génération. Tous testons le convertible Surface Book 3 pour ainsi dire sans rival. Les composants de la partie tablette (i7 Ice Lake, graphismes G7) comme ceux de la partie convertible (GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q) semblent encore plus impressionnants que les prédécesseurs (i7 Kaby Lake Refresh, GTX 1060). Mais ce dernier est-il vraiment plus puissant que son prédécesseur, et les différences suffisantes pour justifier un achat ? Le temps de réponse d'un écran mesure la rapidité à laquelle l'écran est capable de changer une couleur pour une autre. Un temps de réponse élevé se traduit par une image floutée pour les objets en mouvement. Les joueurs bénéficieront de faibles latences d'affichage en jeu.

Scintillement / MLI (Modulation de largeur d'impulsion)

Afin d'abaisser la luminosité de l'écran, certains ordinateurs portables font varier très rapidement le rétroéclairage entre éteint et allumé. La fréquence à laquelle le rétroéclairage s'éteint et se rallume est normalement fixée à une valeur qui permet de rendre la variation indétectable à l'œil nu? Si la fréquence est trop basse, certaines personnes peuvent être sujettes à une fatigue oculaire, des maux de tête ou même percevoir les variations.
Scintillement / MLI (Modulation de largeur d'impulsion) décelé 250 Hz ≤ 50 Niveau de luminosité

Le rétroéclairage de l'écran scintille à la fréquence de 250 Hz (certainement du fait de l'utilisation d'une MDI - Modulation de largeur d'impulsion) à un niveau de luminosité inférieur ou égal à 50 % . Aucun scintillement ne devrait être perceptible au-dessus de cette valeur.

La fréquence de rafraîchissement de 250 Hz est relativement faible, les personnes les plus sensibles devraient percevoir un scintillement et être sujettes à une fatigue oculaire accrue (avec le niveau de luminosité indiqué)

En comparaison, 51 % des appareils testés n'emploient pas MDI pour assombrir leur écran. Nous avons relevé une moyenne à 17893 (minimum : 5 - maximum : 2500000) Hz dans le cas où une MDI était active.

Le Surface Book 3 15 de Microsoft est un appareil premium qui, grâce à sa conception unique, est pour ainsi dire sans concurrent. Où pourrait-on trouver une tablette aussi puissante qui peut se transformer en PC portable, avec une carte graphique encore plus puissante ? Même la tablette seule est plus puissante que beaucoup de PC portables.

Microsoft a encore un peu plus optimisé sa machine, avec des amélioration substantielles dans plusieurs domaines, par exemple en augmentant le volume sonore. L'excellent écran 4K, la combinaison CPU / GPU puissante, la qualité de construction et la solidité du mécanisme de connexion sont toujours bluffants. De même, les périphériques d'entrée sont efficaces.

Mais ce n'est pas totalement une mise à niveau : le passage à un SSD significativement inférieur est décevant à ce niveau de prix. Le Thunderbolt est toujours absent, et Microsoft essaye de faire acheter son dock très cher aux clients. De plus, nous aurions apprécié avoir un port USB C directement sur la tablette, ainsi qu'une plus grosse batterie.

Avec le dernier Surface Book 15, Microsoft fait bien les choses. Il n'y a cependant pas de vraie raison de changer si l'on détient déjà le modèle précédent, qui possède même quelques avantages sur le nouveau modèle.

Cela nous fait même nous demander si le nouveau modèle est meilleur que son prédécesseur. L'interface USB a été mise à jour de la Gen. 1 à la Gen. 2, le niveau sonore en cas de sollicitations a baissé, et les performances 3D sont en hausse. Mais dans le même temps, les performances du processeur restent inchangées, et le SSD est plus lent. Si le Surface Book 3 possède ainsi quelques avantages sur le Surface Book 2, il n'y a aucune raison de passer d'un Surface Book 2 à cette nouvelle version - pour ceux qui ont le budget, le Surface Book 3 reste cependant un bon achat.
