Mise à jour annuelle. Le nouvel Asus GL503VD présente une légère refonte esthétique de la vénérée gamme ROG d’Asus. Certains apprécieront la ligne plus sobre, moins « gamer », mais pas grand-chose d’autre n’a changé. La GTX 1050 permet toujours une expérience de jeu d’entrée de gamme honnête à défaut d’être silencieuse.

Le temps de réponse d'un écran mesure la rapidité à laquelle l'écran est capable de changer une couleur pour une autre. Un temps de réponse élevé se traduit par une image floutée pour les objets en mouvement. Les joueurs bénéficieront de faibles latences d'affichage en jeu.

Scintillement / MLI (Modulation de largeur d'impulsion)

Afin d'abaisser la luminosité de l'écran, certains ordinateurs portables font varier très rapidement le rétroéclairage entre éteint et allumé. La fréquence à laquelle le rétroéclairage s'éteint et se rallume est normalement fixée à une valeur qui permet de rendre la variation indétectable à l'œil nu? Si la fréquence est trop basse, certaines personnes peuvent être sujettes à une fatigue oculaire, des maux de tête ou même percevoir les variations.
Scintillement / MLI (Modulation de largeur d'impulsion) décelé 21010 Hz ≤ 99 Niveau de luminosité

Le rétroéclairage de l'écran scintille à la fréquence de 21010 Hz (certainement du fait de l'utilisation d'une MDI - Modulation de largeur d'impulsion) à un niveau de luminosité inférieur ou égal à 99 % . Aucun scintillement ne devrait être perceptible au-dessus de cette valeur.

La fréquence de rafraîchissement de 21010 Hz est élevée, la grande majorité des utilisateurs ne devrait pas percevoir de scintillements et être sujette à une fatigue oculaire accrue.

En comparaison, 54 % des appareils testés n'emploient pas MDI pour assombrir leur écran. Nous avons relevé une moyenne à 10374 (minimum : 43 - maximum : 588200) Hz dans le cas où une MDI était active.

L’Asus GL503VD possède beaucoup d’arguments positifs. Le nouveau design est plutôt attrayant, et beaucoup plus discret que les ROG antérieurs. La base de l’ordinateur est solide et se prend bien en main. Le clavier tient tête aux meilleurs du marché, et les effets RGB sont bien exécutés et ajoutent un peu de couleurs. L’écran est lumineux et propose des couleurs très fidèles pour ce niveau de prix. Les performances globales sont stables, et en jeu un peu au-dessus des autres portables GTX 1050. L’autonomie est également très bonne pour une machine de jeu, l'appareil devrait tenir au moins une journée de travail.

Il y a cependant quelques points faibles. Certains raccords sont un peu trop larges à notre goût, et ont tendance à accumuler la poussière et les petites particules. Les ventilateurs peuvent devenir bruyant et aigus, les haut-parleurs sont faibles, certains endroits du châssis chauffent beaucoup - mais loin des endroits où l’utilisateur pose ses mains.

Le portable est largement restreint par la GTX 1050. Une GTX 1050 Ti aurait permis un gain significatif de performances pour le jeu, mais aurait augmenté un prix déjà élevé. D’autres portables proposent des performances similaires pour quelques centaines d’euros de moins. Le Lenovo Legion Y520 et l’Acer Aspire VX15 concurrencent tous les deux bien le GL503VD et sont vendus sous les 1 000 €, alors que le GL503VD débute à 1 100 €. Notre modèle (équipé d’un SSD de 256 Go) est proposé aux alentours de 1 300 €.

Tout compte fait, le GL503VD est une belle machine bien conçue. C’est sans doute le meilleur portable d’entrée de gamme disponible pour l’instant. Le portable est bien plus séduisant et mieux construit que nombre de ses concurrents. Cependant sont look élégant, son excellent clavier, et son excellente autonomie s’accompagnent d’un prix non négligeable. Il est également probable qu’Asus propose rapidement d’autres versions du GL503, équipées d’une GTX 1050 Ti ou d’une GTX 1060. Bien qu’elles ne soient pas officiellement annoncées, cela peut valoir le coup d’attendre de voir ce qu’Asus nous prépare…
