Chaleur exagérée. Le Precision 3530 est la dernière station de travail d’entrée-de-gamme de Dell. Équipé d’une carte graphique Nvidia Quadro P600 et d’un nouveau processeur Xeon d’Intel, le Precision 3530 est une machine tout à fait capable. Mais la gestion de la chauffe et le niveau sonore des ventilateurs laissent à désirer.

Scintillement / MLI (Modulation de largeur d'impulsion)

Afin d'abaisser la luminosité de l'écran, certains ordinateurs portables font varier très rapidement le rétroéclairage entre éteint et allumé. La fréquence à laquelle le rétroéclairage s'éteint et se rallume est normalement fixée à une valeur qui permet de rendre la variation indétectable à l'œil nu? Si la fréquence est trop basse, certaines personnes peuvent être sujettes à une fatigue oculaire, des maux de tête ou même percevoir les variations.
Scintillement / MLI (Modulation de largeur d'impulsion) décelé 1053 Hz ≤ 98 Niveau de luminosité

Le rétroéclairage de l'écran scintille à la fréquence de 1053 Hz (certainement du fait de l'utilisation d'une MDI - Modulation de largeur d'impulsion) à un niveau de luminosité inférieur ou égal à 98 % . Aucun scintillement ne devrait être perceptible au-dessus de cette valeur.

La fréquence de rafraîchissement de 1053 Hz est élevée, la grande majorité des utilisateurs ne devrait pas percevoir de scintillements et être sujette à une fatigue oculaire accrue.

En comparaison, 51 % des appareils testés n'emploient pas MDI pour assombrir leur écran. Nous avons relevé une moyenne à 9566 (minimum : 43 - maximum : 142900) Hz dans le cas où une MDI était active.

Le Dell Precision 3530 est tout de compromis. Dell recycle le châssis de l’ancien 3520, mais intègre des composants plus puissants. De ce fait l'appareil possède les mêmes inconvénients que son prédécesseur, en particulier en ce qui concerne la gestion de la chauffe et le niveau sonore. Tout comme le 3520, le 3530 possède des zones bien trop chaudes, et le ventilateur démarre trop rapidement, en faisant trop de bruit. Pire, le mauvais refroidissement entraîne un gros thermal throttling, baissant de 20 % les performances du CPU lors de grosses sollicitations.

Ces compromis gâchent quelque peu un appareil par ailleurs excellent. La qualité de construction du 3530 est bonne, le clavier excellent, et les ports abondants (dont un port Thunderbolt 3). L’écran est dans la moyenne, et devrait satisfaire les non-professionnels. L’autonomie est excellente.

Malgré toutes ces qualités, le Precision 3530 peine à convaincre totalement, à cause de ses mauvaises performances. Le CPU Xeon et le GPU Quadro sont juste trop puissants pour le système de refroidissement médiocre. Il en résulte un throttling élevé, surtout en ce qui concerne le CPU, et des ventilateurs trop agressifs. Il y a une meilleure offre d’appareils avec des performances similaires ou meilleures, et plus équilibrés. Le Zbook 15 G4 de HP ou le ThinkPad P52 de Lenovo font de meilleurs choix.
