Tiger Lake et OLED. Les processeurs Tiger Lake d'Intel sont arrivés, et l'un des premiers appareils disponibles est le tout nouvel Asus ZenBook Flip S. Nous avons pu étudier d'un peu plus près le convertible compact avec écran tactile OLED. Les performances graphiques ont augmenté, mais l'écran OLED consomme beaucoup.

Le temps de réponse d'un écran mesure la rapidité à laquelle l'écran est capable de changer une couleur pour une autre. Un temps de réponse élevé se traduit par une image floutée pour les objets en mouvement. Les joueurs bénéficieront de faibles latences d'affichage en jeu.

Scintillement / MLI (Modulation de largeur d'impulsion)

Afin d'abaisser la luminosité de l'écran, certains ordinateurs portables font varier très rapidement le rétroéclairage entre éteint et allumé. La fréquence à laquelle le rétroéclairage s'éteint et se rallume est normalement fixée à une valeur qui permet de rendre la variation indétectable à l'œil nu? Si la fréquence est trop basse, certaines personnes peuvent être sujettes à une fatigue oculaire, des maux de tête ou même percevoir les variations.

Le rétroéclairage de l'écran scintille à la fréquence de 59.52 Hz (certainement du fait de l'utilisation d'une MDI - Modulation de largeur d'impulsion) à un niveau de luminosité inférieur ou égal à 70 % . Aucun scintillement ne devrait être perceptible au-dessus de cette valeur.

La fréquence de rafraîchissement de 59.52 Hz est extrêmement faible, de grands risques de fatigue oculaire accrue et de maux de tête en cas d'utilisation prolongée.

En comparaison, 51 % des appareils testés n'emploient pas MDI pour assombrir leur écran. Nous avons relevé une moyenne à 17520 (minimum : 5 - maximum : 2500000) Hz dans le cas où une MDI était active.

L'Asus ZenBook Flip S UX371 est un appareil premium à près de 2 500 €. En retour, vous ferez le plein de fonctionnalités, à commencer par un excellent châssis, un processeur Tiger Lake dernier cri, ainsi que de très bons périphériques d'entrée. L'on aura aussi un écran tactile OLED 4K, avec une très belle image, mais peu adapté à de l'édition photo ou vidéo professionnelle, à cause des grosses déviations colorimétriques. A noter que l'écran utilise la MLI. Les deux haut-parleurs stéréos laissent une bonne impression, et le Thunderbolt 4 et le Wifi 6 sont les standards les plus modernes que l'on peut trouver aujourd'hui.

L'implémentation du nouveau processeur Tiger Lake laisse une impression mitigée, puisqu'il y a de la place pour des améliorations. Un ventilateur discret avec des performances réduites peut être un bon compromis pour beaucoup d'utilisateurs et les tâches classiques du quotidien. Nous avons apprécié les différents modes de ventilation, mais un mode performances devraient permettre de meilleures performances, même si c'est au prix d'un niveau sonore plus élevé. Les autres profils Windows ont bien des ventilateurs plus bruyants, mais sans véritable gain de performances, à cause des limitations thermiques.

Des ventilateurs silencieux, mais avec des performances réduites : le ZenBook Flip S n'exploite pas tout le potentiel de son processeur Tiger Lake. L'écran OLED propose des couleurs très vives, mais consomme beaucoup et réduit de ce fait l'autonomie.

La consommation élevée de l'écran 4K OLED est aussi problématique. 7 ou 8 heures sont ici un maximum en pratique, et l'on pourrait même avoir beaucoup moins avec le niveau de luminosité le plus élevé. Le problème est général aux dalles OLED, si bien que l'écran 1080p standard est un meilleur choix pour les nomades.
