Test du GMK NucBox M5 : le mini-PC Zen 2 d'AMD se fait désirer

Abordable mais daté. Pour 300 $ avec mémoire vive et espace de stockage, la NucBox M5 ne fait pas dans la dentelle en termes de performances afin d'atteindre ce prix attractif. Elle n'est pas mauvaise en soi, mais de bien meilleures options sont disponibles entre 400 et 500 dollars.

La NucBox M5 est le dernier mini PC d'entrée de gamme de GMK, contrairement à la série NucBox K, plus onéreuse. Elle utilise des options de processeurs plus anciennes afin de maintenir les coûts à un niveau bas.

Notre unité de test est configurée avec le processeur Zen 2 Ryzen 7 5700U, 32 Go de RAM DDR4-3200 et 1 To de stockage pour environ 470 $. Des SKUs barebone sont également disponibles sans RAM ni stockage à partir de 320 $, mais toutes les options sont livrées avec le même processeur.

Les alternatives à la NucBox M4 comprennent d'autres mini-PC bon marché comme le Beelink SER5, BMax B7 PowerbMax B7 Power Maxtang MTN-FP750.

Cas - Un design rafraîchi avec une meilleure ventilation

Le châssis est visuellement identique à celui de la NucBox K6. Pour la NucBox M5, cependant, les côtés du châssis sont en plastique plutôt qu'en métal, probablement pour maintenir les coûts bas.

Comparée à la NucBox M4, plus ancienne et principalement en métal, la NucBox M5 est en plastique et non en métal NucBox M4 le M5 est significativement plus petit et presque deux fois plus léger.

Connectivité

Les options de port sont les mêmes que sur la NucBox K6, mais avec deux dégradations clés. L'unique port USB-C ne prend plus en charge l'USB4 et le Thunderbolt, tandis que l'un des ports USB-A arrière est désormais 2.0 au lieu de 3.2.

Maintenance

Le couvercle supérieur se détache pour révéler le couvercle du ventilateur et quatre vis Phillips pour un accès facile aux deux emplacements SODIMM DDR4, aux deux emplacements SSD M.2 2280 et au module WLAN. En revanche, le capot inférieur n'est pas amovible, ce qui rend l'accès à l'autre côté de la carte mère plus difficile.

Accessoires et garantie

L'emballage comprend un câble HDMI et un support de montage VESA amovible, ainsi que l'adaptateur secteur et la documentation. La garantie limitée standard d'un an du fabricant s'applique si vous achetez l'appareil aux États-Unis.

Conditions d'essai

Nous avons réglé Windows sur le mode Performance avant d'effectuer les tests de référence ci-dessous. Le système est livré sans bloatware ni applications spécifiques au fabricant pour une expérience Windows propre.

Processeur

Les performances de l'unité centrale sont plus lentes que prévu. Notre Ryzen 7 5700U fonctionnerait 20 à 25 % plus lentement que l'ordinateur portable moyen de notre base de données équipé exactement du même processeur. Il fait toujours mieux que n'importe quel Celeron, Pentium ou Atom mobile, mais les performances brutes sont un peu décevantes, car nous savons que le Ryzen 7 5700U est capable de bien plus.

Les performances globales sont au coude à coude avec les Intel Core i7-1165G7 que l'on trouve sur les anciens 2021 NUC11 plus anciens.

Test de stress

En exécutant Prime95 pour stresser le processeur, les fréquences d'horloge et la consommation d'énergie de la carte ont atteint 1,9 GHz et 15 W, respectivement. Nous pensons que le processeur est capable de consommer jusqu'à 28 W, d'autant plus que la température du cœur n'est que de 55°C sous stress, mais la puissance du boîtier est apparemment limitée à 15 W sur la NucBox M5, même après avoir vérifié les paramètres du BIOS ou les profils d'alimentation de Windows. Le plafond bas de 15 W explique également les performances plus lentes que prévu, comme mentionné dans la section Processeur ci-dessus.

La température du cœur se stabilise à 55°C en fonctionnement, contre 70°C pour le processeur plus rapide Witcher 3 contre 70 C sur le processeur beaucoup plus rapide Beelink SER6 Pro.

Performance du système

Les résultats de PCMark sont inférieurs à ceux de nombreux mini PC actuels fonctionnant avec des processeurs de dernière génération, tels que la GMK NucBox K6 ou l'Intel NUC 13 Pro Intel NUC 13 Pro. Le score du sous-test de création de contenu numérique est particulièrement bas en raison de la lenteur du GPU intégré.

Performances du GPU - Radeon RX Vega 8 obsolète

Le système intégré Radeon RX Vega 8 est antérieure à la Radeon 680M et 780M qui dominent aujourd'hui les mini-PC et les ordinateurs portables de milieu de gamme ou de gamme supérieure. Elle est nettement plus lente que la Radeon 680M, de l'ordre de 50 à 60 %, ce qui la rapproche de la Radeon 780M et de la Radeon 680M Iris Xe Graphics G7 96EUs sur les processeurs Intel de la 11e génération. Le bruit du ventilateur est toujours présent à 33,8 dB(A), quelle que soit la charge à l'écran ou le réglage du profil. Le ronronnement silencieux est audible dans un environnement HTPC comme le salon, mais il n'est pas assez fort pour être gênant.

La plage de vitesse de rotation du ventilateur est heureusement assez étroite et la différence entre le bruit maximum et minimum du ventilateur est relativement faible. Par exemple, nous avons pu enregistrer un maximum de 37 dB(A) contre plus de 48 dB(A) avec la NucBox K6 ou la carte graphique Acemagic F2A.

Les températures de surface ne sont pas un problème en raison de la ventilation superflue tout autour du châssis. Le système utilise deux ventilateurs, comme sur la NucBox K6, même si un seul ventilateur aurait été suffisant compte tenu de la faible puissance du processeur Core U-series.

L'exécution Witcher 3 pour représenter des charges élevées typiques, la NucBox M5 consommerait environ 35 W, soit un peu moins de la moitié de ce que demande la NucBox K6. Les économies d'énergie sont suffisantes pour rendre la NucBox M5 plus efficace que la plupart des autres mini PC, ce qui est également en corrélation avec le faible bruit maximum du ventilateur et le plafond du TDP. Cependant, les performances du CPU et du GPU en pâtissent.

Le modèle est livré avec un adaptateur secteur de 65 W beaucoup plus petit (~6,8 x 6,8 x 3,2 cm) comparé à l'adaptateur de 130 W livré avec la NucBox K6. Les adaptateurs secteur USB-C tiers sont pris en charge.

La NucBox M5 se vend actuellement entre 300 et 380 dollars avec de la mémoire vive et de l'espace de stockage. Quant à la NucBox K6 est disponible pour 500$ et offre 2 à 2,5 fois plus de performances CPU et GPU sans être plus grande ou plus lourde. Inutile de dire qu'il est difficile de recommander la NucBox M5 alors que GMktec propose déjà une alternative objectivement meilleure pour un prix à peine plus élevé. Même en dehors de GMK, la Beelink SER6 peut être trouvée pour moins de 500$ avec des performances bien plus élevées que la NucBox M5.

La NucBox M5 n'est pas nécessairement un mauvais système, mais il existe une poignée de mini PC beaucoup plus rapides dans la même gamme de prix de moins de 500 $.

La NucBox M5 présente quelques caractéristiques remarquables, notamment les deux ports RJ-45 à 2,5 Gbps, les deux ventilateurs et le dissipateur thermique pour SSD, autant d'éléments qui sont relativement rares sur les mini-PC à bas prix. Néanmoins, les faibles performances par dollar éclipsent tous les avantages que ce modèle pourrait avoir.

Prix et disponibilité

GMKtec livre actuellement la NucBox M5 au prix de 320 $ en tant que kit dépouillé et jusqu'à 470 $ si elle est configurée avec 32 Go de RAM et 1 To de stockage.

Amazon propose également un modèle à moins de 300 $ avec 16 Go de RAM et 512 Go de stockage.
