Afin d'abaisser la luminosité de l'écran, certains ordinateurs portables font varier très rapidement le rétroéclairage entre éteint et allumé. "PC portable puissant pour du jeu occasionnel." Voici comment Acer présente le Nitro 5 dans une description très juste. Le processeur Core i7 est assez puissant pour tous les types d’utilisation. Combiné avec la carte graphique GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, l’appareil peut faire tourner fluidement tous les jeux récents sur l’écran mat Full HD. Mais il faudra renoncer aux réglages les plus élevés - le GPU n’est pas fait pour cela.

Le Nitro 5 est un bon appareil polyvalent, orienté pour le jeu.

Mais l’appareil fait également du bon boulot pour une utilisation classique (bureautique, Internet). Il ne fait pratiquement pas de bruit en cas de faibles sollicitations et au repos, et il chauffe peu même avec des sollicitations plus importantes. De plus, l’appareil possède un clavier rétroéclairé qui convient à des séances régulières de rédaction, et une bonne autonomie. Le SSD rapide permet au système d’être réactif, tandis qu’un disque dur de 2,5 pouces lui permet de compter sur un stockage abondant.

L’écran mat IPS possède des angles de vue stables et un bon contraste. Cependant la luminosité pourrait être meilleure. Nous pensons également que le constructeur aurait dû mieux faire en termes de connectivité. Pour environ 1 200 €, un port Thunderbolt 3 et un DisplayPort auraient dû être inclus. Les nuisances sonores élevées du ventilateur en cas de fortes sollicitations devraient aussi être abaissées.
