Le FX503VM essaie de combiner le style d’un portable haut-de-gamme avec le prix d’un portable du milieu de gamme, et atteint plutôt bien son but. Il possède de bons arguments, comme un bon clavier, de très bonnes performances globales, et un design réussi. Mais il possède également quelques faiblesses, comme un touchpad raté, ou un châssis peu qualitatif. L’absence de G-Sync (même sur la version au taux de rafraîchissement élevé) est aussi un peu dommage.

Comparé à d’autres portables de jeu du milieu de gamme, le FX503VM excelle dans certains domaines, et paraît à la traîne dans d’autres. Par rapport au GL503 qu’il imite, le FX503VM propose des performances et une évolutivité similaires, à un prix beaucoup moins élevé : pour environ 500 € de moins, il également fin, et possède de bonnes performances, tout en sacrifiant la qualité de construction premium. L’écran 120 Hz optionnel est juste la cerise sur le gâteau. Les joueurs à la recherche d’un portable de jeu réussi et équilibré seront comblés avec le FX503VM. Et s’il peut être trouvé en promotion, il devient une sacrée bonne affaire.

Le FX503VM possède d’excellentes performances de jeu tout en ayant un prix raisonnable dans un ensemble équilibré. Il est à des années-lumière en avance sur la concurrence de la même gamme en termes de design, sans pour autant sacrifier les performances de jeu. Il ne faut cependant pas oublier ses compromis : la charnière de l’écran paraît fragile, les 3 Go de VRAM brident un peu les réglages graphiques ou la résolution de certains jeux, par rapport aux portables à 6 Go, et le manque de fidélité des couleurs peut être un peu déroutant. Les ventilateurs sont aussi un peu trop bruyants, même pour un portable de jeu.

La plupart des portables de jeu à ce prix semblent généralement de qualité moindre. Le FX503VM quant à lui réussi là où ils pèchent, avec son style réussi dans le milieu de gamme à bas prix. Ceux qui recherchent un portable de jeu fin et léger sans avoir de grosses ressources, peuvent se tourner sans crainte vers cet Asus.
