En retrait. Le Pixel 4 n’intègre presque aucune véritable mise à jour, à part la prise en charge de gestes non tactile, et un écran 90 Hz. Autrement, l’appareil peut être considéré comme un simple restylage. Malheureusement, il ne possède plus de lecteur d’empreintes digitales, et la batterie a vu sa capacité se réduire. Afin d'abaisser la luminosité de l'écran, certains ordinateurs portables font varier très rapidement le rétroéclairage entre éteint et allumé. La fréquence à laquelle le rétroéclairage s'éteint et se rallume est normalement fixée à une valeur qui permet de rendre la variation indétectable à l'œil nu? Si la fréquence est trop basse, certaines personnes peuvent être sujettes à une fatigue oculaire, des maux de tête ou même percevoir les variations.

Il est difficile d’intégrer le Google Pixel 4 dans la gamme des smartphones haut de gammes. Il ressemble plus à un fleuron abordable, tels le OnePlus 7T ou le ZenFone 6. Google continue à se concentrer sur la partie logicielle plus que sur les innovations matérielles. Les gestes non tactiles sont plus intuitifs que sur le LG G8s, mais manquent de possibilités et de profondeur, si bien qu’ils paraissent non aboutis.

Une fois de plus, l’appareil photo est l’un des points forts du Pixel, et possède maintenant un capteur de zoom supplémentaire. Dommage qu’il n’y ait pas de lentille ultra-grand-angle. Le ratio écran / surface est plutôt moyen, mais compensé par la dalle 90 Hz tout à fait réussie, même si la luminosité maximale de l’écran n’est pas aussi élevée que chez certains concurrents, et de ce fait pas aussi performante pour afficher correctement les contenus HDR.

Le Pixel 4 de Google possède un excellent appareil photo, et les dernières mises à jour logicielles. Mais sa petite batterie est son principal point faible.

La capacité du stockage est un autre faux-pas de Google. 64 Go sans pouvoir les augmenter ne sont tout simplement pas suffisants pour cette gamme de prix, un handicap qui n’est pas compensé par les trois ans de mises à jour. En revanche, l’appareil intègre la charge rapide et possède un châssis certifié IP68 – mais tout cela est gâché, redisons-le, par la petite batterie et l’autonomie réduite.

Si vous appréciez Android Vanille et voulez être à la pointe des fonctionnalités logicielles, alors le smartphone sera parfait pour vous. Mais l’on peut aussi choisir un Pixel 3a. D’accord, il n’est pas aussi avancé que le Pixel 4, mais il possède une autonomie bien meilleure.
