Afin d'abaisser la luminosité de l'écran, certains ordinateurs portables font varier très rapidement le rétroéclairage entre éteint et allumé. La fréquence à laquelle le rétroéclairage s'éteint et se rallume est normalement fixée à une valeur qui permet de rendre la variation indétectable à l'œil nu? Si la fréquence est trop basse, certaines personnes peuvent être sujettes à une fatigue oculaire, des maux de tête ou même percevoir les variations.

Le temps de réponse d'un écran mesure la rapidité à laquelle l'écran est capable de changer une couleur pour une autre. Un temps de réponse élevé se traduit par une image floutée pour les objets en mouvement. Les joueurs bénéficieront de faibles latences d'affichage en jeu.

Avec le Redmi 6A, Xiaomi propose le smartphone qu’aurait dû être le Redmi 5A. Les performances sont nettement améliorées, si bien que les applications peu exigeantes, la navigation web, et le système tournent fluidement. L’appareil photo prendra des clichés peu exigeants, et ceux qui voudraient avoir un smartphone de secours bon marché n’auront pas à sacrifier la fonctionnalité double SIM, même s’ils utilisent une carte micro SD.

Avec le Redmi 6A, Xiaomi est le seul constructeur à proposer un smartphone si abordable avec un tel équipement.

Mais même s’il n’est pas nécessaire de revoir ses exigences de performances à la baisse, certaines fonctionnalités manquent au Redmi 6A. A cause de son faible prix, il ne possède pas de lecteur d’empreintes digitales, ni de NFC. Il faut aussi composer avec un enregistrement en ligne strict de la part de Xiaomi. Sans compte utilisateur, il est par exemple impossible de modifier de façon poussée les réglages.
