Le visionnaire Xperia XZ n'est malheureusement pas assez charismatique pour provoquer une révolution. De bien des façons, le modèle que nous avons testé est même plutôt conservateur et le produit d'une prise de risques trop limitée. Il mérite davantage le qualificatif fiable que révolutionnaire.
L'appareil photo est largement mis en valeur par la campagne de promotion. Il offre effectivement de nombreuses fonctionnalités intéressantes, mais est au final dans la moyenne pour la gamme de prix. Il lui manque un stabilisateur d'image, qui permettrait une meilleure qualité de photo en situation d'éclairage faible. L'Xperia XZ prend des photos satisfaisantes, ce que l'on peut dire de la majorité de ses rivaux.
Le téléphone déçoit en termes d'autonomie de batterie, de fidélité des couleurs de la dalle, de vitesse du module WiFi et de consommation d'énergie. Nous attendons plus d'un appareil à 700 euros. Les temps d'accès à la mémoire, trop longs, sont particulièrement irritants, et rallongent le lancement de jeux de manière perceptible.
Mais Sony a aussi fait du bon travail : beaucoup de réglages utiles pour les nouveaux utilisateurs sont présents, et les applications fournies permettent même d'améliorer son et image. Le design, chic, est un atout indéniable. Les hauts-parleurs et le faible développement de chaleur sont également plus que satisfaisants. Nous avons aimé les offres proposées par l'application de fidélité Xperia Lounge.
Tout bien considéré, l'Xperia XZ est simplement moyen, dans bien des domaines. De ce fait il ne sort pas vraiment du lot au milieu d'un segment haut de gamme bien garni. Sony a manqué de véritable esprit d'innovation, mais propose tout de même un bon smartphone.
Il ne fait aucun doute que Sony est capable de révolutionner le marché des smartphones : l'Xperia Z5 Premium et d'autres modèles compacts premium sont là pour mettre la créativité du fabricant en évidence. Néanmoins, cet Xperia XZ ne viendra pas bousculer les standards existants du monde des smartphones. On peut bien le décrire comme un appareil haut de gamme fiable, mais ses caractéristiques et fonctionnalités ne justifieront pas nécessairement les 700 euros exigés. De nombreux concurrents directs comme le OnePlus 3, le Galaxy S7 ou l'iPhone 7 se montrent bien plus performants.
