Ecran réussi. Dell peut-il dominer le marché des 17 pouces de la même façon que celui des 15 pouces ? Le XPS 17 est étonnamment compact, avec des spécifications qui d'habitude ont besoin du double de place, mais quelques détails gâchent un peu l'ensemble.

Nous recommandons le XPS 17 pour repousser un peu plus les limites que les autres constructeurs. Personne d'autre ne propose un PC portable ultrafin 16:10 de 17 pouces avec un processeur Core i7 8 coeurs (bientôt le Core i9) montant à 99 °C et avec une carte graphique GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q, le tout alimenté via USB C. Il parvient même à intégrer un refroidissement à chambre de vapeur - d'habitude présent sur les PC portable de jeu haut de gammes. Les risques et les composants pris sont énormes, comparé aux concurrents qui jouent la prudence.

Suite au temps passé avec la machine, nous pensons qu'elle pourrait vraiment baisser d'un cran, et plus se concentrer sur les bases. Renforcer les charnières, rendre les touches du clickpad plus fermes, intégrer un cache de webcam et améliorer la vitesse de charge - autant d'éléments que des PC portables coûtant deux fois moins chers intègrent déjà.

Ceux qui voudraient utiliser à fond le XPS 17 sur de longues périodes doivent être au courant de quelques défauts. D'abord, la batterie pourrait ne pas se charger, l'adaptateur USB C étant limité à 130 W - il y a une raison pour laquelle les autres PC portables GeForce RTX n'ont pas d'adaptateur USB C, les adaptateurs propriétaires pouvant avoir plus de puissance. Ensuite, la stabilité des performances de jeu ne sont pas garanties, puisque nous avons enregistré des baisses récurrentes de fréquence d'image. Quand on ajoute à cela le ghosting notable, le utilisateurs ne verront pas là une machine de jeu malgré le sans-fil Killer et les graphiques GeForce RTX.

Le XPS 17 est à son mieux avec des sollicitations variables comme la navigation ou l'édition vidéo, quand le système n'est pas en usage intensif pendant des heures. L'écran, le design et les performances vu la taille sont les principaux arguments de la machine face à la plupart des autres 15,6 et 17,3 pouces.

Un 17 pouces ultra-puissant unique en son genre, sans concurrent direct. Les composants impressionnants et l'alllure réussie attirent l'oeil, mais certains éléments de bases auraient nécessité plus de soins.
