Qualcomm SD 8cx

Le Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G Compute Platform (ou SD8cx Gen2, SC8180XP) est un SoC basé sur ARM pour les ordinateurs portables Windows. Il intègre une partie CPU similaire à celle du Snapdragon 855 (mêmes cœurs mais sans la fonction Prime Core) et est fabriqué en 7nm chez Samsung. Les 4 cœurs Kryo 495 Gold sont basés sur l'architecture ARM Cortex-A76 (pour les performances) et cadencés à 3,15 GHz en charge. Les 4 cœurs Kryo 495 Silver sont de petits cœurs ARM Cortex-A55 pour l'efficacité énergétique et sont cadencés à 1,8 GHz en charge (très probablement).

Par rapport à son prédécesseur, le Snapdragon 8cx, le Gen 2 offre des vitesses d'horloge plus élevées et un modem 5G intégré (X55 avec support Sub-6 GHz et mmWave). Le Wi-Fi est également passé au Wi-Fi 6.

Selon Qualcomm, les performances du processeur devraient être similaires à celles d'un Intel Core i5 8e génération de la série U (par exemple, i5-8250U). Cependant, ce n'est le cas que pour les applications Windows compilées en ARM64 natif qui ne sont pas si nombreuses (à la mi 2019). Les applications et jeux 32 bits pour AMD/Intel fonctionnent dans une émulation plutôt lente et les applications 64 bits ne démarrent pas du tout (mais un émulateur devrait arriver dans Windows en 2021).

La carte graphique intégrée Adreno 680 pourrait également être un peu plus cadencée.

La puce est très économe en énergie car elle est produite par TSMC selon le processus moderne 7. Par conséquent, les ordinateurs portables utilisant le Snapdragon 8cx peuvent être refroidis passivement (sans ventilateur) et ne devraient pas s'emballer sous une charge constante.
