Intel Core m3-8100Y

L'Intel Core m3-8100Y est un SoC double cœur très efficient pour les tablettes et les portables refroidis passivement, basé sur l'architecture Amber Lake, et annoncé en août 2018. Il possède deux cœurs physiques cadencés entre 1,1 et 3,4 GHz. Grâce à l'hyper-threading, le processeur peut exécuter jusqu'à quatre cœurs logiques simultanément. La puce intègre également un GPU Intel HD Graphics 615, un contrôleur mémoire double canal (DDR3L / LPDDR3), ainsi qu'un décodeur et encodeur VP9 et H.265. Par rapport à ses prédécesseurs Kaby Lake Y (comme le Core m3-7Y32), Amber Lake utilise la même architecture, mais produite grâce au procédé amélioré 14 nm+ FinFET (pas de 14 nm++), qui lui permet d'avoir une fréquence et une enveloppe thermique plus élevés.

Architecture

Intel utilise à peu près la micro architecture familière des générations Skylake et Kaby Lake, si bien que les performances par MHz sont identiques.

Performances

Les performances de la série Y dépendent largement de la solution de refroidissement du portable ou de la tablette qui l'utilise, et des réglages d'enveloppe thermique en cas de sollicitations soutenues. De ce fait, les différences entre un Core m3 et un i7 devraient être réduites, si la chauffe est limitée. Les vitesses de Turbo élevées avec Amber Lake devraient cependant permettre de très bonnes performances monocœur en cas de brèves sollicitations.

Circuit graphique

Le GPU Intel HD Graphics 615 intégré possède 24 unités de calcul, comme l'ancienne HD Graphics 515, et monte entre 300 et 950 MHz, en combinaison avec le processeur. Les performances dépendent hautement de la limitation de l'enveloppe thermique et de la configuration de la mémoire ; avec de la RAM LPDDR3-1833 rapide en mode double canal, le GPU devrait pouvoir se mesurer à la HD Graphics 520, tout en étant plus lent dans d'autres cas de figure. Les jeux modernes de 2016 pourront dans certains cas être joués aux réglages minimums.

Contrairement à Skylake, Kaby Lake et Amber Lake supportent maintenant le décodage matériel du H.265 / HEVC Main 10 avec une profondeur de couleur de 10 bits, ainsi que du codec VP9 de Google.

Consommation énergétique

La puce est fabriquée grâce à l'ancien procédé 14 nm+ avec transistors FinFET. L'enveloppe thermique classique pour les Amber Lake Y est indiquée à 5 W (les générations précédentes étaient à 4,5 W), et peut être ajustée dans les deux sens en fonction de l'utilisation.
