Intel Core i5-8365U

L'Intel Core i5-8365U est un SoC quadricœur basse consommation pour les portables et les ultrabooks, basé sur la génération Whiskey Lake, et annoncé en avril 2019, comme faiant partie de deux processeurs WHL-U compatibles vPro. Par rapport aux processeurs Kaby Lake R au nom similaire (par exemple le Core i5-8250U), les processeurs Whiskey Lake sont gravés grâce à un procédé 14 nm amélioré (14 nm++), et possèdent des fréquences plus élevées. L'architecture et les fonctionnalités sont les mêmes. L'i5-8365U possède par exemple une fréquence Turbo de 4,1 GHz (contre 3,4 GHz pour l'i5-8250U) pour un seul cœur. La puce graphique intégrée est toujours l'Intel UHD Graphics 620, et le contrôleur mémoire double canal prend toujours en charge la même RAM que Kaby Lake R (DDR4-2400 / LPDDR3-2133). Le Thermal Velocity Boost n'est pas pris en charge (seulement sur le Core i7-8565U).

Par rapport à son prédécesseur, le Core i5-8265U, l'i5-8365U possède un Turbo Boost de 200 MHz plus élevé. L'i5-8365U étant apparu en premier dans un ThinkPad, le processeur prendra certainement en charge le vPRO, qui permet plus de fonctionnalités matérielles.

Les processeurs Whiskey Lake sont utilisés avec un nouveau PCH produit en 14 nm, qui supportent l'USB 3.1 Gen. 2 (10 Gbit/s) et le Wifi/BT CNVi.

Architecture

Intel utilise grosso modo la même microarchitecture qu'avec Skylake et Kaby Lake, si bien que les performances par MHz ne changent pas. Cela signifie que Whiskey Lake est une puce Kaby Lake gravée grâce au procédé 14 nm++ amélioré.

Performances

Les performances du i7-8665U dépendent du système de refroidissement du portable, et des limites thermiques (TDP) définies pour les performances de court et long terme. Nous avons déjà vu de grosses différences avec Kaby Lake R (par exemple dans les tests du i7-8550U), surtout pour les performances (soutenues) de long terme. De ce fait, il va être intéressant de voir comment les fréquences supérieures de Turbo peuvent être utilisées. Grâce au Turbo Boost supérieur de 200 MHz, le 8365U devrait être plus performant que le 8265U dans les tests monocœurs (voir les comparatifs).

Graphismes

L'Intel UHD Graphics 620 intégrée (Intel Gen. 9,5) est inchangée par rapport aux puces Kaby Lake de 8e génération. Avec de la mémoire double canal rapide, elle peut atteindre les performances d'une GeForce 920M dédiée.

Contrairement à Skylake, Kaby Lake et Whiskey Lake prennent maintenant aussi en charge le H.265/HEVC Main 10 avec une profondeur de couleur de 10 bits, ainsi que le codec Google VP9. Les processeurs Kaby Lake double cœurs annoncés en janvier prennent également en charge le HDCP 2.2.

Consommation

La puce est gravée grâce à un procédé 14 nm amélioré avec des transistors FinFET (14 nm++), le même que les Coffee Lake de 8e génération. Intel indique toujours une enveloppe thermique de 15 W, ce qui est habituel pour les puces ULV. En fonction des types d'utilisation, l'enveloppe thermique peut varier entre 7,5 (cTDP down) et 25 W.
