L'AMD Ryzen 7 7840U est un processeur haut de gamme pour ordinateur portable dela série Phoenix , doté de 8 noyaux et de l'Hyperthreading (SMT), ce qui lui permet d'effectuer jusqu'à 16 threads en même temps. Le processeur est doté de la nouvelle architecture Zen 4 et peut atteindre une fréquence de 3,3 GHz (de base) à 5,1 GHz (avec boost). Le processeur dispose de 8 Mo de cache L2 et de 16 Mo de cache L3.
En raison d'un TDP plus faible, le niveau d'autonomie est inférieur à celui des Ryzen 7 7840HS . Le processeur U le plus rapide et le plus puissant, le Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U doit être très réduit.
La puce intègre une carte graphique moderne basée sur RDNA 3 (iGPU) nommée Radeon 780M avec 12 CUs et jusqu'à 2,7GHz inklusive AV1 Video-Engine. Une unité de commande XDNA AI basée sur un FPGA Xilinx a été intégrée au départ. Ce moteur est plus rapide que le moteur d'IA du SoC Apple M2 SoC . Le Phoenix dispose en outre de deux ports USB 4 (40 Gbps), de 20 voies PCIe 4.0 et d'un contrôleur de vitesse DDR5-5600 / LPDDR5x-7500 à double canal (avec support ECC).
La série Phoenix est une puce unique (contrairement à la série Dragon Range 7045HX) et a été conçue par TSMC dans le cadre du processus FinFET moderne de 4 nm. Le TDP est spécifié par AMD à 28 watts et peut être configuré par le fabricant entre 15 et 30 watts.
